Image Gallery: How to link image thumbnails to PDF files

Hi,
I have made thumbnails of the first page of PDF files. I would like use these thumbnails in an image gallery, but it should not link to the pdf image thumbnail but to the PDF.
Any way to faciliate this? I use the Virtue Premium image gallery.
After googling I found *Login to see link but a) I guess that this does not work together with the Virtue Image Galleries and b) I really do not want yet-another-plugin that increases the complexity and decreases the stability of my webshop.
