How do I change the dropdown menu active font and active background colors?

Ben, Hannah, Et Al,
Could you tell me how I go about changing the dropdown menu’s active font and active background colors?
I want the black and white (font and background colors) to invert instead of just showing the normal red mouseover within the dropdowns/sub-menus. Any settings or custom CSS you can offer to do so?
