Global paragraph margins

Hi
I have just added my first text to my site and the gap between the paragraph blocks is massive. I can reduce these individually but would like to reduce them so that each time I write a paragraph the margins would apply. How do I do this. I’ve tried a few css options but none of them does the job. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?
I would ideally like a slight padding on the first paragraph and then at least half of the gap between paragraphs removed.
