Excerpts for pages in search result

Hi,
I am having problems getting excerpts for my pages on the search result pages. I have modified the functions.php so I can write excerpts on my pages, but on the search result page it only says “page” under the image for the page. Is there a way to get the excerpt to show for the page on the search result page?
