Change Secondary Drop Down Menu Hover Colour and Hover font colour

Hello,

I’m working on a site and the menu bar is blue, when it is active it is a different shade of blue.
I have managed to change the dropdown menu to the same blue (through the theme options) but would like the background the change colour on hover to the darker blue of the menu and the font to change to white. I’ve been trying through CSS but I must be doing something wrong. Here is a screenshot:

At the moment it appears as though the dropdown menu items don’t change colour on hover as this is the same colour as I have the secondary menu set up as (and i’m happy with that) The font does change colour on hover – from white to the darker blue but I would want this to be darker blue changing to white instead (again if I change this in theme options then it will ruin the secondary menu style)
