Change Background Color of Blog Post Date

By default the post date in Virtue Premium appears in a small block to the right of the post title, with a grey background. Here’s an example showing January 3rd as the date. I’d like to change that to a white background.
I found this page, used that as a starting point but no luck. I inspected the element and it appears that the class is “postmeta updated color_gray”. Just not sure exactly how to code the CSS for this.
