Hello,
I have built 7-9 Joomla websites in the last 11 years, but have been very unfamiliar with WordPress until just a few days ago.
I purchased a membership from you yesterday. I was mainly interested in the Virtue Theme and the #1 style. I am not interested in setting up a blogging site or an e-commerce site, just a corporate site. But, I wanted the demo content installed so I had something to start with.
I installed the Virtue Premium theme along with all of the plugins, etc., that are required to work with the demo content. I even went so far as to install Woocommerce (which I am not interested in) just to make sure that the demo content worked correctly. I figured I could uninstall that later, after I have had a chance to build what I need.
I then followed all of your instructions for the Kadence Importer, however, the start screen popped up a notice that read: “Your servers php max time is: 60. We suggest increasing that to at least 300 to import demo content else you will likely need to click the import button more then once.”
We have our own VPS server and normally try to keep things as tight as possible for stability and security. From my understanding, max_input_time has to do with the time it takes to capture the HTTP request, at which point the desired script starts execution and the max_execution_time starts counting. You should really only increase PHP config values when absolutely necessary (i.e. you run into an error caused by a config limitation). In most cases, a 60 sec max execution/input time should be more than adequate, but, I reluctantly made the following adjustments:
These values were raised:
max_execution_time 300 300
max_file_uploads 20 20
max_input_nesting_level 64 64
max_input_time 300 300
I then hit the Import button and within less than 10 seconds a message popped up telling me: “Some items may not have completely installed. Please check your site if you are missing content you can re-click the “import demo content” button. Do this until the import is complete.”
I literally had to click the button every 7-9 seconds for over 2 hours and still did not have all of the content. In fact, I kept on refreshing the theme to see if it was changing and found that it looked nothing like your online demo. Plus, it never changed past what I saw when I originally checked it.
Frustrated as I was at that point, I uninstalled everything except WordPress itself. So, I found myself back to square one. I then came to these forums and tried searching for information regarding the importer, only to find that I am not the only one dealing with this issue. In fact, from what I have read, no one who has had this issue has found any satisfaction in the forums. At least, that’s the way it appears based on answers they have received.
At this point, I’m not sure what to do. I need to get a site up quick (that’s why I chose WordPress over Joomla), but it doesn’t look like that will happen with your themes.
Do you think I have any other alternatives based on my situation? If you have some suggestions that will work, I’d be interested in hearing them as I have less than 1 week to build a site and publish it.
Thanks for your time!
Bill
