Stretch Menu / Issue with stacked menu items

Hi Guys – So this is probably the 10th site I’ve built with Kadence … and I’m having a strange issue.
On any menu in the header (builder) .. they always come out as stacked vertically. I have to enable Stretch Menu no matter what, to make them go horizontal. (then they don’t look that great). This happens no matter what section in the header I put the menu, and regardless of which menu
I went back to other sites I’ve built with Kadence Pro and I didn’t need to stretch the menus to get them horizontal. Am I missing something simple?
It’s a fresh install of everything… nothing goofy and no real plugins to mention.
