Comment Notification

I don’t think this is a theme specific question, but I’m sure you will know the answer off the top of your head.
If someone comments on a post, is there a reason that either myself (site administrator) or the author wouldn’t receive notification that a comment is pending approval? I checked the Settings/Discussion and it looks like there should be some kind of email notification, but nothing was received. I verified that nothing had been received or marked as spam.
Should there be notification sent to the author (also set as an administrator) also?
Could there be a setting I’m unaware of?
I searched for an answer, but it looks like I have everything set up correctly.
