Main page portfolio grid – image size

Hi all,
after couple days trying all possibilities I am stuck, so I would like to ask you the following question.
Is there a way how to make images in portfolio grid smaller? (main page)
I am using Virtue theme pro with newest wordpress. I would like to have 3 column grid, but with smaller images in it, so 2 lines will fit the page height.
So far I tried to modify 5 and 3 column layouts in home/portfolio-full.php, but if I set the image width and height to 214 in 3 column grid it will make 5 images in the row. I assume that this is done somehow with java script, which calculate the possible width and moves the images according that. Where I should look for it or how to change it.
